VOLUNTEERS
– Volunteers are needed to help answer phones locally and also to travel to New York City to help. The Red Cross will provide training in disaster relief for those willing to go. For information on donating blood or volunteering, call 775-2367 or (800) GIVELIFE.
LICENSED NURSES
– Any licensed RN or LPN seeking to volunteer with disaster services may contact Sharon Bagalio, Disaster Health Services Coordinator for the Portland Chapter of the American Red Cross. Email her at [email protected]. Please do not attempt to contact the local Red Cross chapter directly. In the email, include your name, address, home phone, work phone, pager, and where you work.
DONATIONS/VOLUNTEERS
– The Maine Medical Association is inviting anyone wanting to volunteer their time and skills to contact their office. They will also forward any other offers for assistance (supplies, blood, etc.) to appropriate emergency officials. To volunteer, call 622-3374 or

Fetch, a pet supply store in Portland, is collecting donations to provide vet service, first aid supplies, and other benefits to rescue dogs involved in searches in New York and Washington, D.C. CASH/CREDIT CARD –
The Salvation Army headquarters is accepting cash and credit card donations to assist the relief efforts in New York, Washington and Pennsylvannia. Please do not send donations of goods. WATER/DRY GOODS/CLOTHES
– All local Salvation Army offices will becollecting the following items through the end of the week: new,adult clothing,, especially T-shirts, work gloves and heavy socks. Gatorade, bottled water, snack packs. Donations can be dropped off between 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m.
The American Relief Fund: All Maine branches of Peoples bank are accepting donations to benefit the American Red Cross. This fund is sponsored by WTHT 107.5, KISS 99.9, and Peoples Bank.

Artists for Unity. The Center for Cultural Exchange hosts an evening of music by the Maine Mass Choir, Fiddle Box, the Al Gardner Middle Eastern Ensemble, Samaki Ensemble, and the Sudanese and Congolese Youth Groups, among other local artists.
