Look out for Tillotson
The USM Police Department sent out a campus-safety-alert for students on the campus to be aware of Eric Tillotson. Students who see Tillotson are asked to call USM police at 780-5211. Tillotson is described as 6’4″ with short wavy brown hair and blue eyes and is known to frequent the Old Port. According to the alert, the USM Police were notified by Bowdoin College and the Brunswick and Portland Police Departments.
Brunswick police suspect Tillotson of giving two female students a debilitating substance in November. On November 15, 2004, Brunswick police served Tillotson a trespass warning banning him from all Bowdoin College property.
“We’re concerned that some of our female students might run into him in the Old Port,” said Chief Lisa Beecher of the USM police. According to Beecher, Portland Police interacted with Tillotson in the Old Port during the week of February 27. Because Tillotson is under investigation, she could not be more specific.

WRC stays abreast of the needs of student mothers
Women who need a place to breastfeed or pump now have a space reserved for them on the Portland campus. The Women’s Resource Center partitioned an area of their space in the Woodbury Campus Center for privacy and is available to women from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
“What spurred us,” said undeclared sophomore Janine Gorham, who works for the center, “was the realization of a woman on the Portland campus who was going into the bathroom stall in order to pump. That’s no place for anybody [to pump].” According to Gorham, the center is used daily and will be used “until there is a more permanent space on campus.”
Pumping allows a mother to manually bottle her milk for usage later in the day. Pumping must always be done in a clean, sanitary area to prevent the spread of germs.
Senator questions effectiveness of BOT rep
Senator Sarah Ferriter raised concerns about the lack of actions taken by the student representative to the Board of Trustees, Ben Meiklejohn. Ferriter voiced her concern at the end of the Student Senate meeting on Friday, March 11.
“I hope the Student Senate acts to replace him soon,” said Ferriter. “He’s not filling his role as far as [I’m] concerned.” According to Ferriter, she gave Meiklejohn a page of concerns to bring raise at the last BOT meeting, which he did not do. “It seems,” said Ferriter “the student representative is out of touch with the student body.”
Student representatives to the BOT are appointed by the Student Senate every two years. Meiklejohn, the first student representative to have the position for two consecutive terms, was nominated for his second term by Ferriter.
Meiklejohn had not returned phone calls by press time.
