Budget approval
In a brief meeting on Friday, the 29th Student Senate voted to approve next year’s budget, which totaled approximately $280,000 dollars. Senate Treasurer Justin Laberge noted that the vote went smoothly with no amendments.
Leadership Cruise
A funding request for the Senate’s annual Leadership Cruise was moved from new business to old business in order to meet planning deadlines. The Senate allocated $762 to supplement fundraising money for the event.
The cruise, which will take place Friday, May 4 from 6-9 p.m., will be aboard the Casablanca of the Old Port Mariner Fleet and will sail around the islands of Casco Bay. There will be a cash bar available for students 21 and older, and entertainment will be provided by the Senate’s own Justin Laberge.
“It’s something we’ve sponsored for as long as I can remember,” Laberge said of the cruise.
Interested students should look for a sign-up sheet in the Powers House on the Portland Campus, as the number of passengers is limited by the Coast Guard.
Passing the torch
The final Senate meeting of the 2000-2001 academic year will take place this Friday. The 29th Student Senate will meet for the last time, then rise and allow the 30th Student Senate to convene. The new senate body will then conduct several items of business, including approval of the budget, policies and procedures manual, and the Senate constitution.
They will also appoint an at-large senator to the personnel review board [PRB] as a general member. The appointee will join the Senate chair and treasurer, as well as the president of the Board of Student Organizations on the board. These latter members are required to serve on the PRB to fulfill their job descriptions.
Finance
The Senate unallocated fund is approximately $1,394.57.
Next meeting
The next and final Senate meeting will be held on Friday, May 4 at 9:30 a.m. in the Woodbury Campus Center, rooms B and C on the Portland campus. All are welcome to attend.
