The two referenda questions on the recent Student Senate elections both passed easily, meaning incremental hikes in everyone’s tuition starting in the fall 2004 semester. The amount paid to the Student Activity Fee depends on how many credit hours the student is taking, and the Sustainability Fund will be the same flat rate for all students.
The Student Activity Fee will continue to increase as well, since it will be attatched to the Consumer Price Index to keep pace with inflation. This fee will not be officially enacted until President Pattenaude, the UMaine System’s Chancellor Joseph Westphall, and the Board of Trustees all approve it. All three have given prior approval to the plan, though, and school officials and students who lobbied for the fee indexing have described the remaining beareaucracy as a formality.
How much more will you be paying next semester? It depends on how many credit hours you are taking.
