Bush Bashing already
Dear Editor,
Is this entire year going to be nothing but Bush Bashing? Let’s look at a few things.
The Patriot Act. A nice law that keeps criminals and terrorists from carrying out acts that could harm the civilian population. How would you feel if a criminal was able to murder your mother, and the FBI knew about them, but had their hands tied because of legal loopholes in our system? Victims have no rights, but it appears criminals do. When it comes to terrorists, they don’t care who you are, if they want you dead then you’ll be dead. But wait! With the Patriot Act we can get them before they get us. I feel safer with a preemptive strike than watching another hundred civilians get killed. The President has every right to do what he needs to do to make sure we are all safe. If that means DNA tagging terrorist suspects then so be it. If they want to kick them out of our country, good. If the government suspects you of being a terrorist, then you must have done something. Bringing the ACLU into the argument is pointless. They have no place to practice law in this country. Any organization that infringes upon my rights isn’t a real civil rights organization.
Why haven’t we heard details about the Patriot Act arrests? This one is really easy. If I was a terrorist and I knew that cell 4 had just been apprehended, I would call off any plans that included cell 4. Most cells do not communicate with each other unless it’s for a group operation and even that is limited. So if you arrest cell 2, you announce you got a cell. Now, two things can happen. The rest of the cells go dormant, waiting to see what is going to happen next or they go to carry out the mission and the government is waiting for them. Now you have cell 4 and cell 2. It has a cascading effect.
As for President Bush’s needs. War isn’t cheap. Fox News made some great points that people are already recovering from 911. WW I and WW II took decades to recover from. The wars dragged out for years. The difference between now and then: technology and coverage. Because we are seeing the news from the front, we think it should go quicker. We also have better technology. Sadly, that doesn’t make a war go by quicker. Sometimes it takes setting up camp and really just doing the work the old fashion way. People may not like it, but that’s how it is. So when Bush needs more money, it’s because equipment isn’t cheap and we’re using it.
The only thing I am disappointed with is the rebuilding of Iraq. I’m not sure if I should be upset with the UN for their lack of motivation in some areas, even after they got bombed. You would think that France and Germany would just cut the BS and get on with life. President Bush should have had a contingency plan for this too. We went to Iraq, and we crushed the mass of Saddam’s forces. Now we are fighting non-Iraqis and trying to rebuild a country that isn’t producing the oil that was supposed to pay for the reconstruction. I hope that the UN will step up and actually do something to help the Iraqi people.
Now let’s switch over to Brian O’Keefe’s Bush bashing. Bin Laden. Let’s look at this. We ALL know he is a terrorist leader. President Clinton had a chance to kill him, in turn that would have prevented 911. But instead, he didn’t because he felt that his ratings would drop since he was in the middle of a scandal. Ok, now because of his personal agenda, we lost the Trade Towers. 911 happens. That was a big loss on our part. I’m not going back into the debate we all had in here last year with the whole anti-war thing. We went to war. We went to the country that was hiding Bin Laden. We told them to hand him over, nicely then forcefully. They didn’t do it, so we walked in and removed one government and started terrorist hunting. Very good call. Take the war to their doorstep instead of ours. So Afghanistan gets a new government and their people are happy. They are happy……… Get that through your heads. I bet if the Taliban were there they wouldn’t be.
Now let’s speed ahead. Saddam is paying suicide bombers to go into Israel and kill Israelis. Now we know that terrorists are behind the bombings. WOW, there’s a link. One of many. Now we put our intelligence eyes on Iraq. Let’s see what they got. Lookie here! A terrorist camp. Meanwhile Saddam is taunting us and playing games. The UN goes into Iraq, keep this one in mind. Saddam gives them a hard time, doesn’t let them into certain sites. Now 12 UN resolutions later, it’s time to stop playing these games. Operation Iraqi Freedom begins. Yes, another war. What did we get out of it? Nothing yet, the war ISN’T over. It’s not going to be anytime soon. Especially with the Shiites and the Saudis sending in fighters to kill Americans. Then look, they even bombed the UN killing one of the greatest UN diplomats. Wait, let’s look at this one again. They bombed a UN office. Bombed a UN office. Yes, that’s right. So even if we had the cooperation of the UN at the start of the war, they still would have been targets. And the UN was there for humanitarian purposes.
This is how I see all this. Those who are Bush bashers (and protest aggressive actions) must love genocide. They protest every time we step up to remove a leader who kills his own people, starves them and oppresses them. They like to go overseas and be human shields, because they take kick backs (as reported by CNN and Fox News). While the people are suffering, these shields were living in luxury.
As for USM’s Free Press. How balanced are you going to be this year? Are you going to dedicate the entire paper to how you hate our president? I hope not. Thank you for your time.
