The Men’s Hockey Team Hosted Their Annual Car Wash Fundraiser
By Caraline Squires, Staff Writer
“Successful”, “Exciting”, and “Bonding” were just some of the words used by team leaders Nick Nault, Jeff Pollara, and Kyle Penton to describe the USM Hockey team’s annual car wash fundraiser on Saturday the seventh. “It’s been so much fun,” Pollara explained, “interacting with people, friends, students, professors, and alumni.” Recent graduate and former team leader Nick Ritmo made an appearance. Ritmo made his presence and support known by cheering on his former teammates with his car horn. The car wash fundraiser has been a hockey team tradition for over eight years, and it’s about more than just raising money for these athletes, it’s also about coming together as a team and having fun. When asked to describe the event in one-word, freshmen like Ben Thornley-Hall and Gavin Simotoulos took a more literal approach and went with–“soapy.” The team is most excited to rematch Norwich University. USM beat Norwich three to one in the playoffs this past February. You can see this year’s team play Norwich for the first time this season on Friday, December 6 at 7:00 p.m. The hockey team’s first game will be on Tuesday, October 22 at the University of New England at 7:00 p.m. You can catch their first home game on Friday, November 8 at 7:00 p.m. against Elmira College.
