A Designated “Classroom”
One of the biggest mistakes you can make during online classes is not having a routine. A vital part of your routine is your workplace or “classroom.” Nothing about our current climate is normal, so you need to try to recreate a normal routine. Find a place in your home that you can consider your classroom; that way you’re in the right mindset each time you go to that place.
All the Software
Most colleges require students to use Office 365—specifically Word and PowerPoint. In addition to Office 365, however, you’re probably going to need to download Zoom as well. Depending on your major, you may need additional software’s also, so make sure you find out exactly what you need. Pro tip: a lot of software companies are offering great deals for students since life is practically online right now; use those discounts to your advantage.
Headphones or Earbuds
If you already have headphone or earbuds—good job, you can proceed to the next part. If you don’t have headphones or earbuds, you need to get some. Between listening to your jams and all those Zoom calls, you’ll need something clearer than your computer or laptop speakers. You should take your home environment into consideration before buying headphones or earbuds. Some homes are louder than others, and you might want to spend a little extra money to get noise-canceling headphones to reduce distractions.
High-Speed and Reliable Internet
Like we said, life is basically online, so you better make sure your internet can keep up. If you can afford it, you should make sure you’re getting high-speed internet. Nobody wants to sit through a Zoom class that’s lagging because you don’t have a good internet connection. Naturally, every company will try to convince you they have the highest-speed internet available, but it’s crucial that you understand what classifies high-speed internet and what doesn’t.
