Below is just a teaser of the many events happening in the week ahead at USM.
September 21
USM Convocation kicks off this Friday afternoon at 4:30 with Waking Windows at USM! Gather up friends and family and make your way to the Payson Smith Lawn on the Portland Campus for free and music and more.
September 22 – 23
On Saturday, 10:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., the Southworth Planetarium will host an Educator’s Open House: Life/Earth Science. Educators and their families are invited to attend free showings of new Life/Earth science-based programs, take a look at the schedule and trailers on their event page.
September 24
Monday a new food-focused roundtable begins on the Portland Campus, 12:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m., at 213 Abromson Center. Community Table Portland is a discussion for those who embrace entrepreneurship in the community to propel the local food economy forward.
Later that day, 4:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., learn about USM’s 21 graduate programs and meet our faculty at the Graduate Programs Open House, on the Portland campus, at Abromson Community Education Center.
September 25
USM Libraries host a National Voter Registration Day 2018 event Tuesday at all USM campus library locations: Gorham, Portland, and Lewiston-Auburn. Registration tables will be open 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. (10:00 a.m – 2:00 p.m. at LAC) making it easy for students and the public to come by to complete a voter registration form, spread the word!
Tuesday evening, 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., the USM Office of Admissions is hosting a college fair event coordinated through the New England Association for College Admission Counseling (NEACAC) at the Sullivan Gym on the Portland Campus.
September 26
On Wednesday, 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., have lunch with the USM Women and Gender Studies Program (WGS) at their Fall Open House.
September 27
At 102 Wishcamper Thursday evening, 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., the Muskie School of Public Service and the Frances Perkins Center co-host the 2018 Betta Ehrenfeld Public Policy Forum with a talk by Maria Echaveste, former U.S. presidential advisor to Bill Clinton and White House Deputy Chief of Staff during the second Clinton administration.
Across town that evening, 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Portland Museum of Art, USM professor Wendy Chapkis presents an evening of short films including a 10 minute film focused on Macon Reed’s NYC event for her “Eulogy For The Dyke Bar” installation, and “Bar Stories,” a 45 minute film made in collaboration with local filmmaker Betsy Carson and USM students as part of the “The Querying the Past LGBTQ Oral History Project.”
