Senior Carly Dion (Biddeford) finished 26th among 290 finishers to pace the USM women’s cross country team to a ninth place result Saturday at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth Shriners Invitational Meet.
Dion covered the 5,000-meter course in a time of 19:01 for her 26th place finish overall (23rd in team scoring). Coming home second for the Huskies was senior Tiffany Binette (Biddeford) who placed 60th overall with a time of 19:53. Sophomore Molly Carl (York) was the next USM runner to cross the line placing 70th overall with her time of 20:01.
Rounding out the Huskies’ first five finishers were freshman Lily Sund (Clifton) in 87th place with a time of 20:11, and senior Alex Raynor (Lamoine) in 20:18, good for 96th place. Freshman Morgan Beede (Augusta) came home in 117th place in 20:37, and sophomore Brooke Madden (Dedham) was the final scoring USM runner to cross the line in 133rd place in 20:52.
Wellesley College took the team title with 41 points, edging out the Massachusetts Institute of Technology by four points. Keene State College, led by individual winner Paige Mills (17:34), was third with 93 points followed by Trinity College with 118 and the University of Massachusetts Lowell with 195. USM’s first five finishers combined for a score of 318. 38 teams posted scores.
