Pop artist Lady Gaga said Sunday she will be speaking at a rally for the repeal of the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” law Monday at 4 p.m. at Deering Oaks Park in Portland.
The rally was organized by the Servicemembers Legal Defense Network, a national organization that advocates against the law passed in 1993 making it legal for homosexuals to serve in the military as long as they don’t disclose their sexual orientation.
According to the group’s website, Monday’s rally is aimed at building opposition against the expected filibuster by Sen. John McCain of the National Defense Authorization Act, which includes the repeal of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.” The Senate vote is scheduled for 2:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
thank you Lady Gaga…the best part is that you got to tell a lot of young people that full equality is important. I loved your speech, well written and delivered. A great moment in speaking out for LGBT rights and very cool of you to raise your voice for our gay and lesbian brothers and sisters. susan
