FP: First of all, what made you choose USM over other schools? Was it mostly the academics, or more towards the hockey side? You’re from New Hampshire, were you getting a lot of offers there and in other parts of New England?
ZJ: I chose USM because it was the best blend of academics and hockey competition around. I wanted to stay close to home so my parents and grandparents can still come to my home games. My father, Big Dick Joy is my biggest fan and I couldn’t bear straying too far away from him.
FP: What is your major here at USM?
ZJ: I’m majoring in Criminology
FP: I know you played some sort of junior hockey before you came to USM. Do you think junior hockey is more beneficial than coming straight out of high school or prep school for an aspiring hockey player? Explain.
ZJ: I played one year for the New Hampshire Junior Monarchs where we won a Junior A national championship. After playing four years for Dover High School, I needed to develop my body both physically and mentally so I could make an impact as a freshman.
FP: How do you feel the team is meshing this year? What is going right? What do you need to work on?
ZJ: This year has by far been the best team I have been on. Our freshmen have made a huge impact and have contributed immensely to our success so far this season. In order to be successful in the post-season we need to continue to improve and work as a team, and Mason our goalie needs to continue to play out of this world.
FP: Where do you see yourself
ZJ: Five years from now I would like to see myself doing something with my major. I am going to pursue either the FBI or Secret Service when I graduate, so if that works out I could be anywhere, but not too far away from my mom and dad.
