To The Editor:
As you probably know, the University awards a number of scholarships which are presented each year at Recognition Day to commend outstanding achievement by our students. In order to be considered for scholarships, students must apply in advance (or be nominated by faculty members).
Application forms are now available for the General scholarships. Schools and colleges may have their own processes for application and/or nomination for department-specific scholarships. Students will be able to find information and listings of all available scholarships at http://www.usm.maine.edu/fin.
I would greatly appreciate your assistance in making students aware of the existence of these scholarships and encouraging them to apply. Applications for the General Scholarships are available in the Career Centers, Financial Aid Offices, Libraries, Athletics, Honors House, and a variety of other places around the Portland and Gorham campuses, plus the Dean’s office at Lewiston-Auburn College.
The deadline for students to apply for 2002-2003 scholarships is Friday, March 1, 2002. Like last year, students are being asked to submit five copies of their completed application packet. A variety of committees read each application for consideration for different scholarships, and submitting multiple copies helps us facilitate the process and ensures that everyone’s application gets read in a timely manner.
Thank you in advance for your willingness to assist us in obtaining the widest possible distribution of this information! If students have questions regarding this process, they should feel free to contact me; I can be reached at [email protected].
Cordially,
Lawrence Bliss
