Piano, guitar, bass guitar, some bassoon.
How long have you been playing the piano?
I started when I was eight, and took lessons up through middle school. But I hated the recitals, so I quit and picked up guitar. Later I taught myself piano again because there’s always been one in my house.
Are you in a band?
Yes, Extendo-ride Stargazer Lilly. We’re the best band in Portland two years running. We have a Web site at geocities.com/extendoride.
What type of music do you play?
Post-Irish soft-core.
Is USM your first school?
No, I went to the University of New Haven my freshman year.
Why did you go to the University of New Haven?
They had a music industry program, which is what I really wanted to do.
What’s it like in New Haven?
It’s a scary town. Lots of drugs, crime and guns.
What’s the strangest thing that happened to you while you were in New Haven?
One time I drove a kid to Washington, D.C. so he could lose his virginity to a girl with cheese in her teeth.
Where are you originally from?
South Portland. I still live there with my parents.
What brought you to USM?
I wanted to take some film and writing classes.
What is your opinion of the media studies program here?
It’s alive in a special way that other majors can only dream of.
Any advice for USM students?
When you motor away down the icy streets, you can’t lie to yourself that it’s the chance of a lifetime.
