Eighty-four to 42 was the final score on November 8th as the University of Southern Maine’s Women’s Basketball took down the University of Maine Presque Isle. This was the first time in over ten years that the two teams faced each other.
The Huskies were the first on the board and never backed down. Freshman Lucy Wiles, number 12, started her collegiate career with a game-high of 21 points. This performance earned her the first LEC Rookie of the Week title. Player #4, Liz Cote, was 3-for-3 from the three-point range and tallied 14 points for the women in white. The Huskies were fierce against the smaller team, never being behind the Owls. Another first-year, Dakota Shipley #2, scored 11 points for Southern Maine. The team was loud and amped up going into their first game of the year. Last season, 2023-2024, the Huskies completely turned their program around, finishing 10-6 in their conference, while in the 2022-2023 season, the Huskies finished 6-10. It’s clear that the team has brought in serious talent, with the upperclassmen being great role models.
