TheWorst drops new album

With a name like TheWorst for a band, one could say that they are being sarcastic. And indeed, they are. TheWorst dropped their third album on November 8th. It was titled Quiet the Gods, which is a very powerful statement. Quiet the Gods has a rather small listening group, but that doesn’t stop them from releasing raw and emotional music.
TheWorst is made up of Brooke Binion (lead vocals and guitar), Will Bradford (bass), and Craig Sala (drums). Binion has a raw-styled singing voice and it brings an edgy and raspy kind of vibe to the music. Their website says that they have been said to sound like a mix of Joan Jett and Kurt Cobain. Upon listening to the album and seeing the style when it comes to the music you can clearly see the connection.
Opening with the song “Quiet the Gods,” which shares its name with the album title, Binion, who is also the lyricist for the band, sings in a way that I can only call 90s style. They are raw in their emotions, and they talk about how “it’s gotten so bad that I can’t see a way back home at all.” I can’t explain this song in any other way than, it seems to be saying that things have gotten so far gone that there is no way back to good. Although, this is just my interpretation. “Last Pill” opens with an audio that almost sounds like it is a record scratching, which plays very nicely with the theme of the album so far. Towards the end of the song, there is the repetition of the lyrics “When you start to lose control” that starts softish and slowly makes its way to a more heavy repetition.
“Nothing for Nothing” has got to be one of my favorites from this album. While they all sound wonderful and shocking at the same time. “Nothing for Nothing” has deep lyrics that by themself would be heartbreaking, but with the instrumentals, it makes it seem a tiny bit more upbeat. Right after the song ends, we are met with “Hackles,” which is the last song of the album. Before writing this, I listened to the album once before going back and starting the process of reviewing. The lyrics “and you used to feel alive when you nearly almost died, I know” was something that resonated with me so much. It was such an overwhelmingly relatable lyric that sticks with a listener.
This album is like a steady but rapidly changing rollercoaster at the same time. The theme overall seems to be that something has changed, and we can’t get back to where we were, but the rapidly changing part was beats. Even though it is such a small album, it has four amazing songs, and I can’t seem to pick an absolute favorite song. However, I will definitely be adding these songs to my playlists and having my friends listen to them. If you’re looking for a modern-day band that sounds like Nirvana, then I suggest that you give TheWorst a try.
