Southern Maine’s Men’s Basketball earned its tenth straight win over the University of Maine Presque Isle, with huge help by sophomore Brady Saunders shooting a career high of 39 points. Number 13 was 7-for-7 at the three-point line. It was a high-intensity game, with the Huskies 11 points behind the Owls at the end of the first half. Both teams battled at the end of the second half, with the score remaining dangerously close. Junior Thomas Whelan, number 23, answered the call; 6 of his 24 points were from layups in these final moments, placing his team in the lead. Bryce Lausier, repping number 2, and Diego Colon, wearing number 4m both had 16 points in Friday night’s game. Saunders solidified the Huskies lead with the final score being 100-96. Alumni Mikey Coppersmith is currently the interim head coach for the men, following previous head coach Rob Sancicola’s sudden departure from the program at the beginning of August. The team left the 2023-2024 season 9-7 in their conference and 14-12 overall. The next time they wear white in Hill Gymnasium will be Tuesday, November 26th, at 7:30 pm as they face Bates College.
