By Amber Friend, Sports Editor
Welcome back Southern Maine athletes! My name is Amber Friend, the new sports editor for the Free Press. Having played sports throughout my life I know the importance of representation and support for athletics and more importantly athletes. Which is why it’s my goal to reach out to members of this community to make sure their hard work is being properly broadcasted. The rocket in permanent ink on my arm is dedicated to my High School ice hockey team. It was on that team I saw strangers become family and created memories I will cherish forever. Student athletes and your teams, this newspaper is where your achievements will stay forever. The ink of this paper will solidify your importance and inspire those who read it. The games, achievements and moments broadcasted here will encompass much more than just winning and losing. The articles will rather be written proof of the moments that gave you the best memories of your life. The University of Southern Maine is home to ten fall sports teams this year. Men’s and women’s soccer, golf, tennis and cross country. As well as Women’s volleyball and field hockey. Whether on a court, course or field the Huskie pack is clearly determined to stand out and stand strong this collegiate season. Division 3 fall regular season games kicked off on August 30th with the full schedule being posted on “The Official Site of University of Southern Maine Athletics”. Best of luck to all of our 23 teams this year, wishing every one of you healthy and strong seasons. As for the USM community, I hope to see you in the stands with me, cheering on our athletes throughout the 3 seasons.
