Gov. Paul LePage will hold a public town hall meeting tonight at the Westbrook Performing Arts Center, fulfilling a campaign promise to hold monthly meetings in each of Maine’s sixteen counties and to meet with local business owners. Doors open at 5:15 p.m. and the meeting runs from 6 p.m. until 7:30 p.m.
The event is the first in LePage’s continuation of “capital for a day,” a tradition created by former governor John R. McKernan after his 1986 election. According to a press release for today’s event, McKernan and members of his cabinet would conduct state business in a community other than Augusta, holding a public meeting with members of the business community.
“I need to be working out in the communities with the people to find answers that make sense for everyone and that is what the ‘Capitol for a Day’ program is about,” said LePage in the press release.
