Spring Break in New England, anyone?
Technology in transportation options shrunk the crossing of oceans from an ordeal of many weeks to a six hour ride and a little jet lag. The drive to the airport can take longer than a flight across half a continent. The latest hot spots beckon us: Belize and Bali, Cancun and Costa Rica. Some of us traded in a cottage on the Cape for a timeshare in the Caribbean. The quality of a vacation experience nowadays appears to be directly proportional to the distance traveled.
A light step in the right direction
Footprint: Suppose you eat 50 pounds of pasta a year. To make this pasta, grain must be planted, harvested, transformed into spaghetti (or linguine or macaroni elbows), packaged, and transported to your table. The entire process from planting the grain to boiling the pasta uses natural resources such as land, oil, and water. It is not hard to find out how many acres of farmland are needed to grow the grain.

Health Beat: Dry Skin
Dry skin is a very common problem with symptoms ranging from mild to severe. The climate in Maine can make dry skin symptoms more severe, especially for our students who come from more humid geographical areas. Winter is especially drying here due to wind, cold air, and indoor heating systems that can substantially dry indoor air.
