Now that classes are back in session, so is your 39th Student Government, and it’s already turning up to be a very active semester. Between planning a concert in collaboration with Gorham Events Board, discussing changes to USM’s tobacco policy, working in the statehouse and getting ready for Student Government Elections in March, your student government is hard at work for you.
USM Student Government’s policy has always been to promote the openness in use of student activity fee in Student Government and student groups. Given the current economic situation and fiscal climate in Augusta, the efficient use of finances is important to the USM community as a whole. This chart of the student activity fee budget, approved by the 39th Student Senate, breaks down how your student activity fee is being spent according to this year’s budget.
Each student pays a fee to the university that goes to fund the wide array of events, services and student groups here at USM. Things such as Pirates games tickets, late night snacks during finals and this copy of The Free Press are all examples of your student activity fee in use. This pie chart shows an anticipated student activity fee income of an estimated $450,000 this year.
If you want a say as to where this money goes, you are encouraged to attend Student Senate meetings on Fridays at 11 a.m. As always, you are welcome to talk to me or any student senator in the Woodbury Campus Center.
