I’ve been looking for a good cup of joe since I started at USM last month. So I did some research, drank a lot of coffee and decided on a few favorites:
The Husky Hideaway in the Student Center is the best place to go for coffee on the Gorham campus. When you’ve got the time to wait, their Pura Vida coffee comes in a variety of flavors and is a bold and rich way to refuel your brain. When you need something quick early in the morning, their instant Nescafe tubes are the way to go. These handy single-serving tubes also come in a variety of great flavors and look just like Crystal Light cups.
The best coffee in town comes from the Gorham Grind, that little boho chic café on South St. across from the Gorham House of Pizza. They buy their beans from Coffee By Design, a local company that runs four of the best coffeeshops in Portland and Freeport and provides top-notch specialty roasts to businesses throughout the area.
While it is a bit pricey, the Grind provides delicious coffee made the way you like it. The most wonderful drink on their menu is the Penguin Mocha (a classic mocha drizzled with both white and dark Ghirardelli chocolate).
Whatever you look for in a pick-me-up, Gorham’s got it. Just don’t buy the brown soupy drivel from Cumberland Farms that barely passes for coffee. I’m addicted to caffeine, but I don’t think I’m ever that desperate.
