Warning: viewing this movie on your home entertainment center may cause your fist to fly right through that lovely flat screen television!
“Observe and Report” presents the story of the mall security guards who patrol the aisles of the Forest Ridge Mall. The main character, Ronnie Barndhart (Seth Rogen), is so pitiful, delusional and egotistical that the comedic value in the character is lost. He’s just not funny to watch. For the actor who played the adorably well-meaning protagonist of “Knocked Up,” this is not a small feat. But it’s true. Word is that there have been numerous incidents of beverage containers hurled directly at his face on the screen. For your television’s sake, you may want to avoid this movie.
In lieu of a deep plot, the film presents a series of moronic scenes that simply cycle through wave after wave of the same unsuccessful poop jokes. Even the first time these painfully redundant jokes occur, they are poorly written and placed in scenes where they hardly make sense. Movie theaters should not be silent after a punch line, but Jody Hill, the writer and director of this flop, seemed to manage.
The movie is so bad, that I was left wondering if Hill was trying to make her audience vomit. How else do you explain showing a nude, overweight male body not once, not twice, but four times? The film wouldn’t even appeal to super perverse 14-year old-boys. If you have already bought this disaster piece and need to take your mind off it, check out the new Blu-Ray edition of “Shaun of the Dead.” Zombies beat rent-a-cops any day!
