Attention all X-Men fans: The fourth live-action film in the X-Men series has made its way to store shelves!
“X-Men Origins: Wolverine” provides the background story of Wolverine (Hugh Jackman), a character who the first three movies catapulted out of the traditionally acne-ridden realm of comic books and video games and into the popular spotlight.
The movie brims over with the kind of explosions, violence and motorcycle stunts that litter any action movie, but it still takes its characters seriously.
Wolverine and Sabertooth (Liev Schreiber) are mortal enemies who used to be close friends. Over the course of the movie, the two gruff, adamantium-clawed mutants genuinely struggle with their identities as government-created bionic killing machines and seek to understand the moral quandaries that caused their separation from each other. If the philosophical qualms of superheroes don’t interest you, there is also a nice romantic storyline that runs through the film. Gentlemen, there are worse date movies out there! Ladies, just be glad your boyfriend isn’t insisting on renting Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen!
The DVD comes with a wide array of extras that will thrill fans, including multiple deleted and alternate scenes, a commentary by director Gavin Hood and a long interview with X-Men creators Stan Lee and Len Wein titled, “The Roots of Wolverine.”
Rated: PG- 13, Grade: B+
