Theater Department produces another spectacular show

The Theater Department at the University of Southern Maine put on an amazing rendition of John Proctor is the villain on the Gorham Campus. The one-hour and forty-five-minute show captivated the audience at Russell Hall. Directed by Sare Valentine, the show took the stage Wednesday, November 6th through Sunday, November 10th. The scenes discussed difficult themes, including sexual exploitation and assault, all while in a classroom setting. A modern spin on this classic comedy was acted out with emotions running high and low within the characters. The student actors made you feel absolutely shocked at one moment but unbelievably proud at the next, something only made possible by true talent. The actors were loud and powerfully emotional in their on-stage dialect. The play brought the audience back to their days of High School, a time that was filled with tension. It made one realize you truly never know what someone else is going through behind closed doors. The Department is not finished yet, gearing up for the one-act opera in partnership with the Osher School of Music, Gianni Schicchi, taking place Thursday, November 21st- Sunday, November 24th. You can buy tickets and find a list of all of the shows USM’s theater department is putting together, including Too Much Light Makes the Baby Go Blind, starting up in early December, on the website https://usm.maine.edu/department-theatre/. The department had previously put on a Wizard of Oz radio drama in late October, hosting a listening party and partnering with the WMPG radio station to broadcast the show. Whether telling a story through an opera, musical, or a play, USM’s theater department never misses. The students are talented, hard-working, and amazing performers. You definitely don’t want to miss out on watching one of their performances.
