April is the cruelest month — especially in Maine. Spring won’t break until mid May or even June, and we may be facing another snowstorm. Nonetheless, the baseball season officially got underway Sunday night and we can only hope that it brings milder temperatures.

Men’s Lacrosse Coach Brings Winning Attitude
Optimism is high on the USM men’s lacrosse team for the first time in its five-year history. The huskies have a new coach, who brings with him a winning attitude and expectations for this season are beginning to rise.
The Huskies were 3-9 last season overall and 1-4 in the Little East Conference.
USM eliminated by Bowdoin
The Bowdoin College Polar Bears ended USM’s hopes for an NCAA championship Friday night, taking a 59-55 win and moving on to the Northeast regional final with their undefeatd record intact. The Huskies, who won a school record 26 straight games en route to the rematch with Bowdoin, ended their season with a stellar 29-2 record.
What’s cerumen???
It’s sticky and shiny – but what is it? Earwax, also called cerumen, is formed by special glands in the outer part of the ear canal. Earwax is supposed to trap dust and dirt particles from the eardrum, as well as provide lubrication and act as a water repellant.

USM dominated Salem State on Saturday, taking an 80-57 victory and moving on to the third round of the NCAA tournament.
The Huskies, who have won a school record 26 straight games and stand at 29-1, will face in-state rival Bowdoin on Friday in the third round of the NCAA tournament.
USM baseball season on the horizon
The USM baseball team is busy preparing for the 2004 season. The Maine weather has forced the Huskies to practice indoors so far this season, but the team is hoping to get outdoors for a few practices before heading to Clearwater, Florida on Mar. 18 for their opening game against Trinity College.

The popular perception is that most college students drink too much and use drugs. This image is perpetuated by the media, which often overestimates the number of college students who abuse substances. The reality is that the extent of drinking and drug use on campus varies widely, and many college students do not abuse alcohol or other drugs.

The USM women’s basketball team has overcome the potentially devastating loss of stand-out Captain Meg Cressler and managed to compose one of the best seasons in the history of the storied Lady Huskies basketball program. Now, the Huskies are poised to make a run deep into the NCAA tournament.
Waite steps up for Huskies
In his first season as a collegiate wrestler Matt Waite was nothing short of spectacular. The 6’3 197 pound sophomore from Canton, Maine dominated the league, and compiled a 20-2 record. Waite is currently ranked third in New England in his weight class.

The University of Southern Maine women’s ice hockey team is gearing up for the playoffs this week, riding a three game winning streak, as they prepare to face off against New England College in the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Women’s East quarterfinal round (played after press time).
