The shields aren’t holding, captain
The New York Times chart of Bush’s approval and disapproval ratings, resembles a Christmas tree, appropriately enough considering his religious ties. Despite being Jewish, I adore this “Christmas tree.” It represents the American people’s growing awareness and disillusionment with all the doublespeak and propaganda Bush’s cabinet has been feeding us.

Draft not strong enough to ignite a fire
Students are talking about the draft and they’re talking about it in panicked tones, which is understandable if the only information they’re privy to is that it’s being considered. Christy examines the facts of the Universal National Service Act.
Achewood
Read the strip that started all the controversy.
Iraq and Achewood
The Free Press is routinely criticized for a bias that we apparently have toward the political left. It has come up in letters to the editor, it has surfaced in a survey we handed out on the Portland campus, and I have even been personally accused of this bias as soon-to-be Executive editor.
Sin tax and syntax
Governor Rick Perry of Texas, much like another prominent [former] Texas governor, is in favor of giving tax cuts; ones that would benefit the rich exponentially more than the poor. Perry wants to lower state property taxes, an essential means for funding Texas’ schools.

Hostel or brothel?
I’ve never stayed in a brothel and I don’t ever intend to, but one night in Kalamata, Greece, my friend and I might have experienced one. Having spent nearly eight months in Asia, I decided to hit up Greece for some island hopping. My current roommate, Nick, decided to leave his homestead here in Maine to join me for a month.
It’s Spring – celebrate biodiversity with your neighbors!
We have new neighbors. They haven’t put up curtains yet and we have been shamelessly watching them in their new, toxic-free, energy-efficient home. The wife beats her head against the walls, shouts a lot and did all the renovations. The husband is a loud mouth too, but nobody’s complaining.

Asia to Europe… almost penniless
“Excuse, sir, can we see your passport?” the Chinese conductor said in broken English. “Sure, one moment,” I said as I searched my money belt. I patted my waist, looked through my bag and anywhere else it could have been, but to no success….
The President scares me
George W. Bush is not that different from Osama Bin Laden, and that scares me.
Global economy could dictate textbook prices
Purchasing textbooks from overseas distributors has been called unethical by some entities, namely those affiliated with the National Association of College Stores (NACS). NACS is currently pressuring publishers to do something about the “problem” of reimportation of textbooks originally sold by American publishers to foreign markets.
Letters to the Editor
I was screwed in the national guard…. Achewood, indicative of PC model of society…. Democrats, not Bush, trying to reinstate draft…. Hypocritical Christians follow flawed word…. Moldy house? Don’t burn it down…. Police no longer idle….
A tenet of admitting shortcomings
Failures have been a popular topic in the 9/11 hearings. CIA Director George J. Tenet has confessed to multiple failures and shortcomings within the intelligence communities in the months leading up to September 11. He simultaneously defended the CIA, saying it did all it could under the given restrictions.
