Presidential-candidate hopeful Ron Paul to visit USM on Saturday

Ron Paul, candidate for the 2012 Republican Party presidential nomination, is set to speak at the University of Southern Maine this Saturday.

Paul is tentatively scheduled to speak at 11 a.m. in the Hastings Formal Lounge on the Gorham campus, according to Paul Madore, the state chairman for the campaign. He said the itinerary is still being developed for the rest of Paul’s visit to Maine.

USM Student Body President Chris Camire is helping organize the visit and had been in contact with Aaron Libby, a Republican member of the Maine House of Representatives, about Paul’s visit. Camire said he had heard Libby was looking for a student to help him coordinate the visit from Paul. Camire contacted Libby Monday morning and began making the arraignments for the visit.

Libby did not immediately return a phone call.

Paul visited the USM Portland campus in 2008 during his previous presidential nomination campaign.
