A USM student was approached by a car full of men who attempted to detain her as she walked towards campus in Gorham early this morning, according to a campus safety alert released by the USM Department of Public Safety.
The woman was walking by herself at approximately 2 a.m. Friday when the incident occurred, according to Lt. Ronald Saindon of the USM Department of Public Safety. “She was approached by a vehicle where one individual got out of the vehicle and attempted to grab her by the arm,” said Saindon.
Saindon said the woman ran up College Avenue and safely onto campus. The car briefly pursued her, but Saindon said the car began to drive away as the student got to campus.
The car was described as small and silver. The inhabitants of the vehicle were all described as black males.
Because the incident occurred off-campus, the case is being handled by the Gorham Police Department.
Is it just me, or is really weird that this happened the same day as the “Take Back The Night” campaign against sexual violence on campus took place? Hmmm… Scary stuff.
