Senior women and gender studies and sociology major Emily Paine will moderate a panel discussion on the gay, lesbian bisexual and transgender youth in Maine tonight.
The discussion will be held in room 113 of Masterson Hall in Portland from 5:30-7 p.m.
Paine is USM’s 2011 Maine Policy Scholar. According to a press release about the event, Paine has spent the last year researching the effectiveness of an amendment to Maine’s Human Rights Act intended to protect LGBT youth from harassment.
Paine will be joined by Assistant Attorney General Thom Harnett and members of several LGBT advocacy groups. The discussion will focus on the social climate in Maine schools for LGBT youth.
The Maine Policy Scholarship Program was created in 1995 and is funded through the Maine Scholars Fund at the Maine Community Foundation.
