Still struggling to clear your head from the seemingly never-ending hibernation of the Maine winter? The SPACE Gallery might just have the perfect remedy, as electronic indie-pop savants STRFKR will be joined by Portland’s own Foam Castles for a show on Wednesday night that is sure to remind you that summer is quickly approaching.
Since their 2008 eponymous debut, the Portland, Ore. based STRFKR have gained a reputation for their endlessly energetic live shows that are sure to devolve into a perpetual dance-party as the night goes on.
While the immediate musical comparison is usually Of Montreal, STRFKR steer away from the experimental R&B tendencies of the latter, in favor of unapologetic sugary-sweet pop hooks and twitchy electronics.
Supporting the exuberant indie-pop collective, is Seattle, Wash. based experimental hip-hop group Champagne,Champagne. Likely to reinvent all of your preconceptions about what hip-hop is capable of, Champagne, Champagne adopts the best parts of later day De La Soul with slow drone of shoegaze for an experience unlike anything you’ve ever heard of.
Portland’s own Foam Castles fills out the rest of the night in support of their surprising new electronic EP, “Come Over To My House.” This Free Press A&E approved band led by USM graduate Tyler Jackson, has yet to disappoint, and remains one of the state’s must-see acts, so make sure you get to the SPACE Gallery at 8 p.m. when the doors open. Tickets are still available online and at the door for only $10. As with most SPACE Gallery shows it’s 18+ so put the kids to sleep early.
Here’s a bit of a taste of STRFKR’s electronic pop-genius: “Bury Us Alive” from their newest album “Reptilians” which is available now:
And the always amazing Foam Castles with “Molly’s Jungle” standouts, “Welcome to Molly’s Jungle” and “Garage From Slingblade.” Filmed live last January at Portland’s Empire Dine and Dance.
