WMPG’s spring Begathon, the community radio station’s twice-a-year pledge drive, begins Thursday morning and will run for a week through April 6.
Radio hosts will ask people to donate money to support the station by either calling the Begathon hotline, using the Paypal link on the WMPG website or coming to the station in person.
Dale Robin Goodman, the station’s development director, said they hope to raise $30,000 with the Begathon, which includes direct mail that’s already sent. Roughly 25 to 30 percent of the stations yearly operating funds are raised by the two Begathons each year.
They’ve already raised over $5,000 for this Begathon. “After the last rough couple years that comes as a very promising sign,” Goodman said.
Different donation levels have different gifts, including a Begathon t-shirt for those who donate $35.
Goodman said many people come to the station to deliver their donations in person.
“The thing that makes Begathon different from any time of year is we have enormous contact with our listeners. They call; they come by,” Goodman said. She said many people drop their donations off and take tours of the studios.
“For us its a party celebrating what we do here,” said Goodman.
