If you’ve been wanting a date but can’t hire a babysitter, or if you’ve been too busy to find a date, USM group Supporting Parents in Continuing Education has just the event for you. SPICE is holding a date night and speed dating event tonight from 5 to 9 p.m. at the Woodbury Campus Center in Portland, with childcare offered to attendees with children.
Tickets are $15 for couples and $10 for individuals, with the proceeds going to future activities put on by SPICE.
The event will feature music by local band Saved by the Flannel and all-inclusive speed dating, with options for both straight and LGBT participants.
The group was founded in September 2009, according to senior and SPICE founder Sarah Worcester. “We wanted to give student parents a voice,” Worcester said. She said the group currently has about three active members, with 10 to 15 members participating occasionally.
Childcare will be provided by friends of Worcester’s, one of whom is a nanny, while the other is a licensed daycare provider.
Those wishing to attend are encouraged to RSVP by emailing [email protected].
