For the 27th consecutive year USM hosted the Western Maine MATHCOUNTS competition. The competition between eight Maine middle schools was held Saturday, Feb. 5 in Bailey Hall on the Gorham Campus.
The competition consisted of three rounds–a “sprint round”, “target round” and “team round”, with a “countdown round” and awards ceremony later in the day. Each middle school competed for a chance to move on to the state championship on Saturday, March 26.
The MATHCOUNTS Competition is a national middle school coaching and competitive mathematics program that promotes mathematics achievement through a series of contests.
Lyman Moore Middle School Placed as Number 1. Students were Nolan Cyr, Ellianna Booth, Hilary Kingsbury, Jacob Goldburge, Jacob Libby, Kyle, Calob, and Ryan. Also there wonderfull teacher was Julie Myers.
