The only requirement to enter WMPG’s Cajun Cookin’ Challenge was that you had to bring a minimum of ten gallons of food.
This didn’t stop the nine restaurants or several feisty individuals that vied for the 2008 crown.
By the end of the afternoon judging period, supplies were diminishing as the contestants raced to cook up and dish out new batches of their specialty dishes.
Meanwhile, votes were flying in.
Two DJs spun Cajun and New Orleans music all afternoon in the Woodbury Campus Center, broadcasting live to the WMPG radio audience and revelers eating and drinking at the event.
After more than four hours of feasting, almost 400 votes were tallied. The public chose Bayou Kitchen as this year’s winner – now the kings of the kitchen for two consecutive years.
The Great Lost Bear, Uncle Billy’s, Gritty’s, and Aramark were among this year’s delectable competition.
Maine Root provided sarsaparilla, ginger beer, and root beer all day.
After finishing the cook-off on campus, the radio station moved downtown, hosting a Mardi Gras celebration at Empire Dine and Dance featuring The Cajun Aces and the spicy spinnings of WMPG DJs throughout the night.
