FREEDOM SPACE: PORTLAND – BAGHDAD

This night will be spoken word performances and music in solidarity with the Iraqi people, inspired by cultural events taking place in Baghdad organized by Iraqi peace activist Yanar Mohammed. During her fall 2007 talk at USM, she described a cultural event taking place in the midst of the war zone in Iraq called “Freedom Space.” In doing so, she inspired students, faculty, and community activists to organize a similar event here.
