The sun, she shines. The air is warm, the tide is high, it’s time to get out and paint the town. Here are a few options.
The Passenger Release Party. We touted it last week, we’ll tout it again this issue. Writers, artists, and entrepreneurs from around the globe have put together a quarterly magazine called The Passenger, working with Portland’s Angioplasty Media. Check out the accompanying article on page TKTKTK for the full scoop. The release party features live music from Chad Chamberlain, Strawberry Allstars, and DJ Nocturnal. Casco Bay Books, Portland. 541-3842 for more information. Monday, April 25. 7:30 p.m.
USM Vocal Jazz Ensemble. Jazz it up for spring at Corthell Hall, with your evening soloists Calvin Goodale and Daniel Pendergast. 780-5555 for tickets or further information. Tickets are $3 to $6. Monday, April 25.
Fishermen’s Festival. For an authentic Old Maine experience, head to Boothbay Harbor for the Miss Shrimp Princess Pageant, something called a codfish relay (no idea), and that time honored favorite, the lobster crate race. 633-2353 for further information. Friday, April 29 to Sunday, May 1.
“Dance USM!” It’s a weekend of dance at Russell Hall, with performances choreographed and executed by students, faculty and guests. See preview on page TKTKTK for all the minutiae. 780-5151 for tickets or further information. Tickets $5 to $12. April 29 and 30, 7:30 p.m. Sunday, May 1, 5:00 p.m.
Faculty Concert Series. The final faculty concert of the season, with the performance of four original compositions by USM associate professor Bruce Fithian. Performers include several members of the USM Music Department’s faculty, as well as a 16-member chamber orchestra and the USM Men’s Chorale. Seriously, I’m trying to think of something kitschy to say about this, but I just read Professor Fithian’s bio and some of the background on the compositions to be performed and can only say… Go. Scrap whatever else you were gonna do, and head to Corthell Hall for a glimpse at what USM faculty has to offer, because it is indeed considerable. 780-5555 for tickets or further information. Tickets $5 to $15. April 29, 8:00 p.m.
Psychic Sunday. You read right, kiddies. Local psychics devote the day to answering all your biggest questions: Will you die alone, impoverished, in obscurity, or are you destined for health, wealth, and great sex ’til your ’90’s? Head to Howard Johnson’s in South Portland for the answers. Sadly, the readings do cost you; fees vary. 286-1427 for further information. $1 entry fee. Sunday, May 1, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
