Come out, come out wherever you are! The drag queens and kings lit up the stage at Woodbury Campus Center last week. Only a few broken nails and broken earrings put a damper on the stage. Hosted by the radiant Crystal Ball/Chris O’Connor, assistant to the Dean of Student life, who wowed the crowd with Crystals new outfits. “Crystal went shopping!” purred Ms. Ball. Students and faculty members strutted down the runway lip synching and sashaying to the evening’s music.
The Woodbury Campus Center transformed from lunchroom to fashion catwalk. Crystal Ball started off the night in a sparkling red dress. While performing Ball made a point to include all spectators in her performance by winking and waving to get the audience pumped up for the nights events.
This year, the drag show was livened up with drag makeover s for the audience. Two lucky students were brought up on stage in their street clothes, during intermission both were transformed into their drag alter egos. Full makeup, hair and clothes were provided and both students proved to be beautiful drag kings and queens.
The night wasn’t all fun and games. After each performer had sang, Ball grilled the contestants asking, “Which Madonna is your favorite? 1980s Madonna, 1990s Madonna or fake British Madonna?” Judges listened carefully as contestants racked their brains.
The most remarkable part of the evening is watching the performers walk and dance in huge platform, stiletto, heels. While not a contestant but a guest was Crystal Ball’s friend Lady Rage. Rage wowed the audience as she danced like no one had seen, and maneuvered gracefully in her nearly 12 inches of heel.
