Bioscience groundbreaking
Members of the campus community are invited to a ground-breaking ceremony for the Bioscience Research Addition to the Science Building in Portland at 2 p.m. Friday, March 22.
The ceremony will take place at the site adjacent to the Science Building on Falmouth Street. Tours of the building and refreshments will immediately follow.
The new bioscience facility is a major component of the state of Maine’s research and development initiative and will house researchers who seek external grants, and generate teaching and research needed to support this region’s evolving industries, particularly in the biotech sector.

For those of you graduating seniors who sat through public speaking class and learned all kinds of things you thought you’d never use in real life, here’s your chance to put your skills to the test and make your professor proud.
USM is accepting applications for commencement speakers. Students must be graduating seniors, eligible to participate in commencement.
One speech is accepted per student and must be the original creation of the presenter. The speech must be three to five minutes in length and the topic should address the USM community in general.
It is suggested the focus be a reflection of the University experience and direction of graduating class.
Deadline for submission is 4 p.m. March 22. More specific application information can be found at the Information Center in Portland’s Woodbury Campus Center, Destination Graduation in 107 Payson Smith Hall, and in Gorham’s 100 Upton Hall, the Brooks Student Center and Advising Services on both campuses.
