The new USM logo is causing a stir around campus, centering on the displaying of the new logo and who is paying for the changes. The Student Senate is currently looking into whether or not the Office of Marketing and Brand Management (MBM) is being excessively aggressive in their enforcement of the logo guidelines.

UMA votes ‘no confidence’ in Westphal, BOT
On September 30, 2004 the University of Maine at Augusta Faculty Assembly passed a resolution of no confidence in Chancellor Joseph Westphal and the UMaine System’s Board of Trustees (BOT).

Richard Witham works for Facilities Management at USM, where he is a carpenter. He spends his days on campus doing finish work, building cabinets, countertops and doing maintenance. He is also a self-taught wood carver who makes intricate wildlife sculptures.
Life gets interesting in Mr. Robinson’s neighborhood
Recently, I was able to spend an evening with Lewis Robinson, a Portland resident and professor in the USM Creative Writing MFA whose first collection of short stories, “Officer Friendly and other Stories” was published in hardcover in 2003 to nationwide critical acclaim.

UMS Strategic Plan Unanimously Approved
The University of Maine System (UMS) Board of Trustees (BOT) unanimously approved the University of Maine Strategic Plan proposal on Monday following more than an hour of community commentary. About 30 protestors demonstrated outside the meeting, asking for a delay in the vote, while speakers representing students, faculty and community organizations brought their views to the Board.

In an e-mail addressed to the 33rd Student Senate, Gabriel Markley resigned as student senator and parliamentarian, effective last Monday. On Thursday, Senator Asher Platts also announced his resignation online.

Mens’ soccer shocks nationally-ranked Bowdoin
The USM men’s soccer team faced off against nationally ranked Bowdoin College this past Tuesday. Despite their opponents ranking of 7th in the nation, the Huskies stepped onto the field with confidence and handed Bowdoin their first loss of the season, 2-0.
Getting to know Sigma Nu
Last weekend, Sigma Nu held the 25th Anniversary of the purchase of their house. The anniversary celebration was also meant to honor Jim Degrandre, who helped significantly in the purchasing of the house. Many of Sigma Nu’s 481 alumni gathered last Saturday for a barbeque and get-together.
