Event Details

Join us for a podcast launch and panel discussion about political organizing and creating change.  The panelists include Samaa Abdurraqib (doing organizing work in communities of color), Quinn Gormley (the executive director of Maine Transgender Network), Nickie Sekera (doing community organizing around water justice) and Rachel Talbot Ross (House Rep for district 40 and political organizer in her own right). Discussion and debate moderated by USM student Benn Marine, the author of the podcast. There will also be local organizers from different organizations present in the room and at the end there will be a meet and greet, so participants can connect with organizations doing work around issues they care about. Some of the organizations that will be there include the ACLU of Maine, Planned Parenthood of Northern New England, Maine Transgender Network, Southern Maine Workers Center, and many more.  To check out the website and hear a teaser of the podcast you can visit oceanoforganizing.com. The podcast will land on the WMPG website as well as being listed on Apple iTunes, Google Play, Stitcher, Spotify, and InTune. This event is part of an independent study Benn Marine, a Political Science major, has been working on this semester, with a focus on political organizing and social movements.
