Actually 70 percent of those who voted in an election with a 75 percent turnout voted no confidence. The 51 percent is only true if you count all faculty who voted AND all those who chose not to vote. Only 23 percent of all possible voters chose not to support the vote of no confidence (which is not the same as supporting President Botman). In any case, the message is clear that a majority of faculty have no confidence in President Botman.

Josh, If you think that USM puts a "serious amount of time" into the social work program, you are sadly mistaken. The program is vastly underfunded and understaffed. They can't get approval to hire more faculty, but are instead told to just increase course sizes, which are bursting at the seams! Their graduates are getting jobs upon graduation, right here in Maine. The problem is that it is a social service career, so it takes decades to make any "real" money, and today's students expect great pay to be handed to them. Sorry, it doesn't work that way!

I've never seen this meme before, but I like the message. We need to do something about this problem, maybe we can stop bailing them out... That would help.

"as a result of a bathroom ceiling fan between the second and third floors being left on for too long, according to the Gorham Fire Department."

What a ridiculous statement. I have to assume they meant a "ceiling exhaust fan". These fans are designed to run indefinitely. If it started the fire it was "defective" or maybe it had never been cleaned and full of lint.

Enough ammunition for Chancellor Page to welcome her early retirement from the post. Time to merge the place with SMCC anyway... that's where all the students have been fleeing to for the past few years. Pogo has no clothes.

As a student leader you are not going please everyone you represent. If you do not like what is going on maybe you should step up and join the student senate there are still spots open and you can learn it is not always easy to make change.

Yes.... I would appreciate her rationale. Botman's FY 2009 budget closed at a surplus. In a report to the BOT Fin/Fac committee approximately $800,000 in unused financial aid explained the surplus. But if a University operates with hundreds of millions in deferred maintenance the idea of a budget surplus is patently absurd or even a "balanced budget" is inaccurate. Annual debt is incurred as physical plant maintenance continues to accumulate without a strategic plan to address it.
