A closer look at the Pioneer Program

USM became the first school in the state this semester to start an honors program focusing on the STEM fields. The Pioneer Program offers a scholarship package to outstanding Maine high school graduates who are pursuing a career in a STEM field and who exhibit leadership skills.

USM President Selma Botman has formed a task force to examine ways to stimulate a more vibrant community on the Gorham campus. The task force met for the first time Friday, with members brought ideas to the table and started to create a strategic plan.

Whether you’re interested in learning another language, studying other cultures or just want to experience life in another country, USM offers many opportunities for students interested in studying abroad. “The experience was unbelievable and life changing,” said Krista Jamison, who studied in Florence, Italy in the fall of 2010. “I absorbed another culture and lived in a beautiful country.”
