The month of February is brimming with health observances: World Cancer Day (Feb 4th) American Heart Month, National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day (Feb 7th), National Eating Disorders Awareness Week (Feb 22-26) just to name a few. The holiday February is perhaps most known for however, is the widely celebrated and sometimes dreaded Valentine’s Day. May I invite you to focus your attention on the celebration end of Valentine’s Day as it pertains to YOU and YOU only? Health Services wants to help you FEEL THE LOVE.
Self-love can be defined as targeted thoughts about one’s own well-being. I have heard from many sources in the past very stressful year they are “just getting by” or “making it through the day”. Well everyone, it’s OK to ask more from yourself than to just get by. In fact, it might feel really good to engage in an active process to take care of yourself. BTW, YOU ARE SO WORTH IT. I think we could even help you with that. Here are some examples of how.
Health Services provides two main types of visits: the wellness visit and the problem focused visit. In a problem focused visit we help you with things like colds, sore throats, rashes, anxiety, sleep issues. This is definitely self-love…we help you help yourself get better! Then there is the wellness visit or you might call it “yearly physical”. We often skip this one because we feel fine. By skipping the wellness visit you have just skipped a HUGE part of self-love. In a wellness visit we talk about what you eat, how you sleep, how you move your body, how you manage your stress. This is critical infrastructure for self-love people! If you don’t do the basics well, you will be more apt to get sick. You will be more apt to struggle with achievement in classes and work. You will be more apt to feel unhappy, stressed and so NOT feeling the love.
We are ready and waiting at Health Services to help you show yourself some self-love and focus on well-being. Schedule a Telehealth appointment with one of our nurse practitioners; Amy, Lynn, Malinda or Samar. We will meet you where you are at, talk about your basics and find out what’s working for you and what isn’t. If something is working well for you, we will celebrate it! Then we will decide together on a plan for the things that might need to be tweaked a bit. If we need to bring you into the office we can do that too. We want to be your guide in caring for yourself and achieving well-being. It’s time for you to FEEL THE LOVE from yourselves folks – it’s the most important place to start.
