Five runners finished in the top 20 of a 155-person field as the USM men’s cross country team finished second at the 2010 New England Alliance and Little East Conference Championships hosted at Moore State Park in Paxton, Mass.

The New England Alliance race includes schools from the Little East Conference (LEC) and the Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference (MASCAC).

The Little East conference scores its conference championship from the race. Keene State swept both the LEC and Alliance Championships by scoring 36 points. The Huskies took second place with 65 points.  Westfield State placed third with 117 points. USM edged out Keene State last season (2009) for both titles.

Junior Erich Neuts (Portland) finished as the Huskies top runner placing eighth.  Neuts covered the five-mile course in a time of 27:00.7.  Sophomore Dylan LaJoie (Lewiston) finished 10th overall with a time of 27:14.8 and junior captain John Vallo (Beacon, N.Y.) placed 12th crossing the finish line at 27:19.8.  Junior Tim Even (Stoneham) placed 16th with a time of 27:37.3, while freshman Julian Gazzeloni  (Windham) rounded out the scoring with an 18th place finish in a time of 27:42.1.

All five of USM’s top runners by virtue of finishing in the top 20 of the race earned All-Alliance honors, while Neuts and LaJoie earned All-Little East Conference honors by placing in the top seven.
